So, I’m currently on my way to the beach. With my trusty iPhone with its wonderful Google maps. The occasion? My wife’s side of the family has there Easter cookout a week after so the other side of the family can all meet together. Makes sense I guess.
But the main point about this post is to talk about the iPhone’s ability to cut your trip time in half. You see… AT&T’s data network pretty much spans all major roads so I can enjoy youtube to its fullest even on the move. The network performs very well but there is one drawback with Google maps. There is a semi GPS feature that comes with it. Instead of using satellites, it uses cellular towers to triangulate your position. Well obviously this doesn’t work unless there are more than one tower in the general area.
Well, were getting closer to our destination and I need to use my maps so… Catch you later.

Man oh man… What’s up everyone. Again I have procrastinated my week away. Good news though. I got my replacement motherboard in and everything’s back to normal. Well, once I catch up with my work at home it will be normal. I took Monday off to hang out with family from Easter and get my computer back up and running.
But enough of that and now to our main feature.
This Wednesdays random crap is SPAM

OMG… if you have ever had an email account or any kind of forum or blog, you will know that spam is a very evil and nasty thing to deal with. Obviously there are precautions you can take to avoid spam. Like not putting your email address in every single box that asks for it online. I wouldn’t recommend giving your email address out to people who don’t really like you either. All they would have to do is spend about 5 minutes searching online for naughty sights and put your email address into the newsletter box and you would receive spam every single day for a very long time. That account would basically be ruined. But I’m not really going to talk to much about how to fix this though. Another time maybe.
What I want you to know is where it came from. Trust me… it’s old. The first message believed to be spam was through Western Union in the 19th Century. It was sent by Morse Code and this message was sent to a large number of destinations at once.
-.. — -.-. / -… .-. — .– -. .—-. … / . .-.. .. -..- .. .-. / — ..-. / …- .. - .- .-.. .. - -.– / ….. —– / .–. . .-. -….- -.-. . -. . / — ..-. ..-.
Translates to:
doc brown’s elixir of vitality 50 per-cent off
Pretty crazy stuff. Many people think that the only type of spamming is email but spamming is the abuse of any electronic messaging system to indiscriminately send unsolicited bulk messages.
• instant messaging spam
• Usenet newsgroup spam
• Web search engine spam
• blog spam
• wiki spam
• mobile phone messaging spam
• Internet forum spam
• junk fax transmissions
So much spam… it makes me want to cry. Even after one day has passed on this site, I will have about 20 messages that are all spam. Some companies provide really good filters though for fighting the problem.
The first email spam was released on May 2nd, 1978. Gary Thuerk sent an unsolicited electronic message to large numbers of the users of ARPANET, promoting a new product from his company Digital Equipment. The reaction from the net community was fiercely negative, but Gary’s spam did generate some sales. Gary was interviewed on the CBC Television.
Big spamming problems didn’t start occurring though until the 1990’s though.
So now that you truly know about spam, check out what I like to do with my spam when it starts to over flow on me

By now every body is slowly finding out that HD DVD players are gone. Bye bye see ya boo who. So to pick up the slack, Best Buy is going to be marketing the people that bought HD players and accessories. Oops, I mean they want to help you in your time of need.
It was announced on CNN that Best Buy would be giving away $50 gift cards to those who bought a HD DVD player or accessories before February 23rd. Now this does sound like a pretty sweet deal. Free gift cards is never a bad thing. But, Best Buy knows that a $50 gift card is nothing compared to the $300 to $400 you paid for that DVD player. The gift card is basically a ploy to get you to buy a Blueray player from them. Hey… you shelled out that much for a HD player, then why wouldn’t you do it again, especially if you had a gift card.
I guess the decision is now up to you though. To buy or not to “Best” Buy. It’s funny because Circuit City has a page dedicated to explaining the HD issue, but no resolution yet. I see it coming though.
Got comments, I’d love to hear them.

When it comes to technology and cool stuff, sometimes we can come off sounding a little geeky and a bit of a nerd. But we can bury that idea for right now because we’re going to talk about CARS!!! There is nothing more manly than a sports car. And though there are a lot of cars that are being built that have some pretty awesome technology, there isn’t really an electric sports car. Well, just recently Tesla Motors went full production and are now selling the Tesla sports car. The great thing about this ride is (first and foremost) its ability to travel on electricity only. The car already gets the equivalent of 135mpg compared to a gas engine. That’s less than 2 cent per mile. But the really great thing about the car is it unprecedented ability to get up and go.

In a car that uses a gasoline engine, there are a number of things that happen to make the car go. When you press the acceleration pedal down, the engine must take in more gas from the tank at the back of the car. Run it through the fuel lines, spray it into the combustion chamber and that pushes the pistons which make the shaft turn, delivering power to the tires. That usually takes a considerable amount of time to happen especially if you are in an automatic. Now with the electric car is much different. Gas pedal down - car go faster. It’s pretty much that simple and there is no delay on acceleration. Because the electricity is immediately changed into mechanical energy.
