Sick and Tired

Writing by Jose on Thursday, 25 of October , 2007 at 12:46 am

Hello everyone. I decided to come back and see how the world was doing without me. I have been busy over this past weekend and then I had a stomach “situation”, lol. I think I’m feeling a little better though now. Just in time too… because something great is about to happen today.
I just ordered a new sound card for my pc. It is a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer sound card. I’m getting so excited about getting it. Creative really is the only company besides one other that has the X-Fi chip on it. And a lot of the games that have been out for a while and are now coming out have added sound effects and features that are only available when you have this card in your machine.

Here are a few good reasons to have this Card (I know this is not the same card but it has pretty much the same features except for X-ram):

I did a little research though before considering this card, because there are 4 different versions of this X-Fi card. The “XtremeGamer” being the second to the cheapest tier… still at $90.00, it is not a card to turn your back to.

Now the card you want to be ashamed of would be the Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio 7.1 The package and name that labels the product is contradicting to what the product really is. Which is not an X-Fi card. It does not use any of the X-Fi drivers and it is not recognized by EAX and X-Fi enabled games. Please steer clear of this one.

Why does my computer run soooo sloooowwwwwww…

Writing by Jose on Friday, 19 of October , 2007 at 4:58 pm

Here is the situation. You have a pretty fast computer, or one that you remember was fast until you got the internet and then about 2 weeks later you started to see that pc slow down. Not just a little slower… a lot slower. You look at your internet explorer and you see new bars up there that weren’t there before. Icons on your desktop that you didn’t put there. Unmentionables that somehow got on your computer without your consent.

virus

Well… you defiantly have a problem. It’s called being owned by the internet and it’s not very fun. When you surf the web (especially if you are a new user) you may tend to make mistakes. Now the mistakes I am talking about don’t sound all that bad, but if your computer doesn’t have a good anti-virus and anti-spyware package, then you are pretty much screwed.

Things like:

• Typing in the address bar to search for sites on the internet is a big no no. (You never know what will pop up) Always use a trusted search engine first, like Yahoo! or Google.

• If you do know the URL of the site you want to go to, when you type it into the address bar… MAKE SURE YOU TYPE IT CORRECTLY. (Bad people set up sites that have names extremely close to popular ones… like yahooo.com or goggle.com) Sites like this will more often than not, try to infect your computer with a virus or spyware.

• Don’t open every email you get that comes into your inbox! If you haven’t heard of SPAM, then let me explain it. You get junk mail in the electronic form. You open it and if you click on a link inside of the message you have basically gone to a site that is set up to infect you just like the mentioned above. You should know who you receive mail from. If you don’t know the person just don’t open it.

• Downloading files from the internet is a really big part of the reason it exists. The transmission of files and data is what it’s all about. But you must take care not to open files that you are not familiar with. Even if you have a great virus protection, most of the time, your virus protection will not be able to stop you from opening and installing software if you tell it to.

• Be careful who you take CD’s, DVD’s, Jump Drives and Floppies from. The person that gave you something like these may not even be aware that there is a virus on the media that was passed on to you.

• There are other ways but the main thing is to use common sense. If it doesn’t feel right, then just don’t do it.

Now… to the remedy. I am here to tell you that there is hope for those who have slow computers. You need to get some virus and spyware protection AND I WILL TELL YOU HOW TO GET IT FOR FREE! (And it’s completely legal… Of course I would never do anything illegal online anyways :) )

Avast!

Don’t bother with all of that Norton McAfee and other high dollar software. All you need to do is go to Avast! and get your free software suite. Yes… it is free for home users, and it is the best protection I have ever used. If you are using some other software to keep your computer safe and it runs slow, then you need to get Avast. Once you download and install it, you will need to register it to your computer. This is simply done by following the prompts when it asks you to register. The only reason they have you register is so they can keep track of how many users they have. They don’t ask for any credit card info at all.

Once you have it installed, make sure you do a pre-boot scan. This will load Avast virus scanner before windows even boots up. That way no virus or spyware can have time to protect itself.

When your computer starts running much faster, come back and leave me a comment about your success. If it is not any faster or you are having problems getting the install to work, still comment and let me know about that too. I will help you as much as I can.

Oh… and don’t forget to tell others about this story (you know… the ones you care about)
